Le vedute notturne sono un ciclo che accompagna la produzione di Nannini sino dagli esordi.
Dipinti soprattutto ad olio su tela o tavola in piccoli o grandi formati hanno affrontato differenti situazioni iconografiche: dinamiche notti urbane o più rurali e silenziose con accenni talvolta simbolisti. Il notturno è a tutt’oggi parte fondamentale della ricerca pittorica di Nannini.
The night views are a cycle of works that have characterised Nannini's artistic production right from the offset.
Mainly oil paintings on canvas or board, in small or large format, they address various iconographic situations: dynamic urban nocturnal scenes or more rural, quiet scenes, sometimes symbolist in vein. The night scene is still plays a leading player in Nannini's artistic repertoire.
Ciclo che comprende serie eterogenee di vedute e con un intento più lirico e letterario. Dipinti con prospettive profonde ad ampio sguardo spaziale o che insistono decise sino a lontani orizzonti e per contro, a volte, prospettive aeree a volo d’uccello. In queste opere l’uso dello spazio pittorico-compositivo si innesta nel solco più classico del vedutismo occidentale non rinunciando a situazioni di rinnovamento. Sono opere che vanno dal piccolo formato su tela o tavola sino al grande formato su tela.
A cycle that encompasses wide-ranging series of views, with a more lyrical and literary intention. Paintings characterised by deep perspectives and wide angles or by a firm insistence on far-off horizons as well as, on the contrary, aerial bird's eye views. In these works the use of the pictorial/compositional space ties in with the most classic works of western landscape painting without, however, renouncing opportunities for renewal. These works range from small-scale format on canvas or board to large-scale on canvas
• Types
La serie Types nasce nel 2005 contestualmente alla serie Houses. Sono dipinti di grande formato che analizzano la figura a grandezza naturale e in pose statiche fronte/profilo come una catalogazione di tipologie antropiche e loro accessori. Una sorta di enciclopedia delle varietà umane, dipinte ad olio su tela o tavola. A seguito di questa iniziale traccia, ancora proseguono nuovi lavori con finalità ed intenti di maggiore approfondimento e analisi (gruppi di figure seriali o ingrandimenti dei singoli volti), sempre considerati come Types dall’autore.
The Types series came into being in 2005 at the same time as the Houses series. These are large-scale paintings that analyse life-size human figure in static poses, in frontal or side view, like a sort of cataloguing of anthropic types and their accessories. A sort of encyclopaedia of the varieties of humankind, painted with oil on canvas or board. Following this initial wave, further new works were to follow, with greater emphasis on in-depth probing and analysis (groups of people or enlargements of individual faces), still coming under the umbrella of Types.
• Houses
La serie Houses nasce nel 2005 contestualmente alla serie Types, ma presentata l’anno successivo. Houses sono le dimore dei tipi umani, il territorio di pertinenza, l’accessorio per antonomasia: l’abitazione. La scelta cade su tipologie abitative dimesse e comuni come spesso accade nelle grandi periferie di tutta Europa, dove l’edilizia pare omologarsi in maniera spesso indifferenziata. Le inquadrature sono frontali su formati fortemente orizzontali per scorrere di dettaglio in dettaglio gli “ingressi” e gli oggetti di ogni situazione e umana accumulazione. Dipinti ad olio su tela o tavola di grande e grandissimo formato, sono attualmente in piena fase realizzativa.
The Houses series came into being in 2005 at the same time as the Types series, but was presented the following year. These are dwellings of various human types, their home territory, with their accessory par excellence – their habitation. Nannini chooses types of houses that are common and unassuming, such as might be found in the suburbs throughout Europe, where the construction industry seems to have produced the same kind of standardised, indistinct abodes. The houses are framed frontally along horizontal lines so that the “entrances” and objects relating to every kind of human situation and accumulation can be scrolled along in detail. Painted in oil on canvas or board, of small and large format, they are still being abundantly produced by the artist.
• Golem
È un’installazione che comprende una scultura in legno di tiglio patinato di circa 2 metri e 30 di altezza (il Golem) e il laboratorio che ne ha visto la realizzazione con tutti gli strumenti occorsi e i bozzetti in creta e legno della testa, nonché gli studi preparatori su carta o tela e i motivi iconografici di ispirazione. Realizzato nel 2010 è attualmente l’unica serie di opere scultoree realizzate da Nannini.
This is an installation that consists of a sculpture in glazed lime wood, approximately 2.3 metres tall (the Golem), and the workshop where it was created with all the tools used and wooden and clay models of the head, as well as the preliminary drawings on paper or canvas and iconographic sources of inspiration. It was executed in 2010 and is so far the only series of sculptural works produced by Nannini.
